Join Code Week and Ignite a Passion for Coding: Empowering African Youth through Digital Education in Uganda and Kenya

In just one week, African high school students will embark on an exciting journey of coding exploration as CodeWeek in Uganda and Kenya commences.

The CodeWeek initiative is poised to inspire thousands of students across Uganda and Kenya . By dedicating a mere 10 minutes per day for 7 days, students will delve into coding, acquiring valuable skills that can shape their future careers.

The challenge is set to kick off on the 18th of September and will run until the 24th of September 2023. Students are encouraged to sign up and then commit to coding for 10 minutes every day, for 7 days straight.

How to Participate:

  1. Visit www.ugandacodeweek.org or www.kenyacodeweek.org and sign up for daily challenges.
  2. Every morning, students will receive an email with instructions on what they need to do for that day.
  3. Code for a minimum of 10 minutes each day for 7 days.
  4. Capture a screenshot of your daily coding session and share your coding screenshot on your social media profile, tagging @CodeJikaUganda or @CodeJikaKenya on Facebook and using the hashtag #UgandaCodeWeek or #KenyaCodeWeek.

Emmanuel Acar, a Code Coach in Uganda, shares his excitement about the initiative, stating, CodeWeek is a game-changer for African education and digital transformation. It presents an extraordinary opportunity for our students to gain valuable skills and become creators of technology, rather than mere consumers.”

CodeWeek’s primary goal is to break down barriers and equip African youth with the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital world whilst offering engaging learning experiences with interactive coding exercises, tutorials, and real-world examples. The success of CodeWeek is made possible through the unwavering support of local schools, governments, and partners who share the vision of empowering African youth through coding education.

Jonathan Novotny, Founder of CodeJIKA, affirms, “CodeWeek marks just the beginning of an exhilarating journey for our students. It goes beyond coding; it’s about building skills that empower students to reshape their own future.

About CodeWeek

CodeWeek is a campaign to encourage teens and pre-teens to learn how to code by doing 10 minutes of coding for 7 days. In particular, CodeWeek encourages partners to support teachers and schools in implementing short- and long-term coding training. Completion of the fun training exercises unlocks longer courses in Web & Game Development on the CodeJIKA.org platform, which is also mobile-friendly. CodeWeek is an initiative of Code for Change and its partners.
